General Guidance for Foreign Nationals wishing to marry in Thailand


1. Registration of marriage in Thailand can be done at any District Offices. In submitting an application, foreign national is required by law to submit an affirmation of freedom to marry issued by his/her embassy in Bangkok together with its translation certified by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand. Contents of an affirmation of freedom to marry must include the following detail 

  • Name, Surname, Nationality, Passport Number, Issuing Date, Expiry Date and Authority;
  • Permanent Address or Resident
  • Father and Mother's Names;
  • Occupation or Career and Annual Income (Annual Salary);
  • Marital Status (Single, Divorced, Widow);
  • You are qualified and eligible to marry a Thai or a foreigner according to Thai Civil
  • Names and Addresses of Two contact Persons for Reference.


2. Authentication of the translation of an affirmation of freedom to marry can be done at
